Julie Allen is a lifelong reader and inveterate traveller, Sunday school teacher for 15-year-olds, the mother of four kids (two of whom are LGBTQ+) and professor of Comparative Literature and Scandinavian Studies at BYU. She grew up in Hawaii, studied at BYU and Harvard, served a mission to Denmark, and has lived for extended periods in Germany, Denmark, England and Australia. Her research focuses on cultural identity construction and transmission, through literature, film, religion and migration. She is the author of Danish but Not Lutheran: The Impact of Mormonism on Danish Cultural Identity, 1850-1920 (2017) and has a book on European silent film in Australia and New Zealand forthcoming from the University of Exeter Press in March of 2022.Â
